Peekapoos are known for their love of 'hoomans', they love to be able to sit in your lap and be part of all the household activities. They are loyal and also very gentle in nature. Their high intelligence means they are easy to train and it also makes them great dogs for first time owners and older individuals as well. Although naturally suspicious of strangers, they will never act aggressively as long as socialised and trained correctly. However they make fantastic pets for lots of families and have the ability to provide you with years of happiness and warm laps!
These sweet little dogs are thought to be one of the oldest 'designer' crossbreeds, having been developed in the 1950s, as compared to many other hybrids that were only developed in the last 10-20 years! The Peekapoo is a cross between a Pekingese and a Miniature or Toy Poodle, in response for the need of a dog that was low-shedding and thus suitable for individuals with dander allergies. They quickly gained a lot of popularity in the 60's, bringing joy to many peoples houses! There is currently no breed club and they are not recognised by the Kennel Club, but with careful breeding it's hoped that one day they may be recognised! Currently, they are a first-generation crossbreed, meaning that normally the parents are always Pekingese and Poodles, as opposed to Peekapoo parents. To this day they still remain a very popular breed across most of the world!
