Goldendoodle Breed Summary
Intelligent, Gentle, Friendly, Playful and Energetic
Goldendoodles are a cross between the Golden Retriever and the Standard or Miniature Poodle. They have become extremely popular over the last couple of years and are well-renowned for making lovely companions and pets. Unfortunately, they are not yet recognised by the Kennel Club, but it's hoped with continuous high-standard breeding that one day they will be!
These dogs, because they are a relatively new crossbreed, can alter in appearance from puppy-to-puppy. For example, some may have shaggy coats in likeness to a Retriever, whilst others may have a more relaxed curly coat, like that of a Poodle! However, many Goldendoodles will have coats that are somewhere in between this.
Fun Fact: Goldendoodles are owned by lots of celebrities, including Usher and Perez Hilton!

These dogs are well-known for being both extremely intelligent and energetic in nature! Because of this, they make excellent pets and are fairly easy to train up, especially as they are very eager to please. On top of this, they are also discussed as being very gentle and patient, which makes them good for families with younger children. Goldendoodles also absolutely adore water, so if you live close to a lake or beach, we recommend taking full advantage of it! These dogs are also very playful and their energy levels mean that they need plenty of walks, exercise and playtime in order to remain well-rounded and happy dogs. Additionally, they make a great choice for first-time owners and even older people as well. So long as they are well socialised from a young age, they make the perfect addition to many homes and families!
These sunshine dogs are one of the newest crossbreeds, having most probably been developed over the last 20-30 years! They are a cross between a Poodle and Golden Retriever, with the idea being to create a dog that is hypoallergenic, and thus suitable for 'hoomans' with allergies. This paired with the fact that they are very intelligent and affectionate means they make ideal pets for a large variety of families. Additionally, the breed also makes an excellent choice for an assistance dog, for those who may be disabled or otherwise impaired. It's thought that their name came from an American Family called the Neelands in 1992, after telling their friends that their dog was a Goldendoodle and opposed to a Labradoodle. They have since become very popular over the last few years, especially in Australia!
