Shollies are known for their high energy and active ways and will require a lot of physical and mental stimulation with a family who are also fairly active already. This said, they are also highly affectionate doggies and will always try to protect their ‘hoomans’. They are a very gentle breed and get on well with children – although they may try to herd them! They also may get on with another dog or even a friendly (or tolerant!) cat. As much as they are high energy, they also love their chill-out time as well, such as napping and snuggling in bed with you.  Because of their high intelligence, they are very easy to train but will require a committed owner.

The Shollie is a hybrid dog; a cross between a German Shepherd and a Border Collie, although there is not that much known history of the breed and no date of origin, it’s difficult to pin-point exactly when this breed came to be. However, as both breeds are very popular and well-known for their intelligence and athleticism, it’s thought they were probably bred to possess similar traits to their parents. With the German Shepherds having a rich history of serving as a service dogs, and the Collies known for their strong ability to herd sheep, this new breed is a highly, well-rounded dog with fantastic abilities. They will easily make fantastic companions, guard-dog, sheep dogs, whatever!
