These dogs are known for their fantastic temperament. They are full of joy and love to be around their humans as much as possible. They make fantastic pets for families with children as they love to be involved with games. They are also a very intelligent breed, meaning they are easier to train than other dogs, however, their brainy capabilities may not always work in your favour. If you let them take an inch, they can become very stubborn and take a mile! It’s therefore vital you let these little guys know who’s in charge and they need to be given rules and limitations to stop them taking over! Without this it will lead to them developing ‘little dog syndrome’ – behaviours you definitely don’t want your dog to develop! For an owner with an experienced understanding of this breed, they make fantastic pets! Just make sure they got lots of exercise and walkies to keep them fit and healthy.

This particular breed started off as the Badger Cub in 1894 with the aim of creating a dog that was worthy of badger digging as opposed to fox hunting. However, by the 20th century the breed was renamed the Parson Jack Russell Terrier but wasn’t officially recognised by the Kennel Club until 1990. Queue another name change! It was actually petitioned by the UK Kennel club to change the name to what is the now known as, the Parson Russell Terrier. So, as you can see, although the type of dog itself has been around for over 100 years, the name of the breed is relatively new!
