If we were to describe this breed in one word it would have to be enthusiastic! They are incredibly reliable and their only want in life is to please their 'hoomans'. As a result of this, these guys may not be the breed for everyone as they really require an owner who can keep up with their energetic ways. They must also be up to the task of brushing and maintaining their Beardies very long hair on a daily basis. Because they are also very sociable, they love to be involved in all sorts of family activities and hate to be left out! Just remember, Bearded Collie's were bred to independently herd sheep and so can often have an independent/ stubborn streak. It's therefore vital to train these guys up from pups so that they know who's in charge! They will nearly always get on with other dogs and love to play with children. Overall, they make fantastic pets that will provide you with years of entertainment and joy

It's thought that Bearded Collie's are one of the oldest breeds in Britain!  They were originally kept by farmers as herding dogs, unfortunately though, farmers at this time didn't keep records. It actually wasn't until the 1500s that we had any record at all until a Polish Merchant visited Scotland and received two of these dogs as part of an exchange. In terms of visual representation, the first paintings we saw of this breed was in 1771, by Gainsborough and a written description didn't come about until 1818! It wasn't until after WW2 that these doggies truly had their time to shine and it was all down to G.O. Willison who began a proper breeding programme for them. Nowadays, however, they make pawsome family pets!
