These happy chappy's thrive most when there is a job to be done, no matter what the task may be! Airedale Terrier's love to dig and chase, so are most suited to a house that has access to a decent-sized garden, where they can be most content. Because of their vast history, these dogs are known to have a fairly independent streak, they are able to think for themselves and may not necessarily listen to everything their 'hoomans' tell them to do. But these dogs are definitely not all work and no play, they can be very comical and mischievous at times, and their puppyish ways will follow them most of the way through life. Sassy is definitely a word we'd use to describe these guys, as they are very unforgiving if they undergo harsh treatment and can sometimes be aggressive to other dogs and animals so it's compulsory that they get all the training they can, in a positive and encouraging environment. However, they are excellent watchdog's and will do everything they can to protect their 'hoomans'

These fluffy guys are often referred to as 'Kings of the Terriers' as they are the largest of their kind. They were originally bred to catch otters and rats in the Yorkshire area as they possessed the keenness of a terrier, but had the ability to swim and smell prey. Nowadays they are more well-known for their love of play. They also served as dog soldiers during WW1, most famously noting 'Jack the dog' who saved an entire Battalion - and for this, we raise our paws! Airedale Terriers are also well known for taking part in competitions, in categories such as agility and obedience due to their sporting nature.
