The Sprollies’ have adopted much of their personalities from their parents. They are extremely high energy dogs, requiring lots of daily exercise and walkies. As a result, they are best suited to a family to par-take in physical activities that these guys could be a part of! On top of this, their inherited intelligence makes them super brainy dogs, so they will need lots of mental stimulation as well. However, they are fairly easy to train. If their physical and mental needs are not met, it could result in some really destructive behaviors, such as barking, digging and generally messing up their homes. These guys also like to know their place in the pack, it’s important that they know you’re in charge and if you do have other dogs, let your Sprollies’ know where they fit in the hierarchy, otherwise you might walk into a dog show down! However, they make extremely devoted companions, and for the right owners, a great pet.

The origins of this breed are unfortunately, largely unclear. What we do know is that the breed is a mix between a Border Collie and a Springer Spaniel and that the cross probably came about as a response to needing a high-energy, working dog, mainly for work on farms. However, more recently, they have been bred purely as companion dogs. Although not yet recognized by the Kennel Club, it’s hoped that over time they will bred enough to develop their own traits and with continuing god health, will be a registered breed!
