Miniature Poodles are a lot larger than Toy Poodles though smaller than the Standard Poodle. They remain an extremely popular choice of pet due to their gorgeous looks and charming personalities. The bonus of owning one of these dogs is that they don't shed, meaning they are good for humans who suffer from allergies. Their coats do require a lot of attention in order to keep them looking their best however which can be costly.
These sweet dogs form very strong bonds with their owners meaning that when left alone they can suffer from separation anxiety and are better suited to families who work or stay at home for most of the day.

Miniature Poodles are extremely clever, after all, their ancestors were originally bred to retrieve waterfowl for hunters! They are also incredibly proud and very elegant to look at, making them a firm family favorite. These dogs are a favorite in the show ring and can be seen to win 'best in show' as well as being real performers in agility and obedience contests. Because of this, it's no surprise that they are very easy to train, they're positively paw-fect! Despite their appearance this breed is far from snobby, they love their humans to bits and will often get lonely if left for long periods of time.
The Miniature Poodles cousin, the Poodle, is an extremely historical dog and similar versions can even be seen in ancient Egyptian illustrations, dating right back to the first centuries of B.C.! The exact creation of this breed is a mystery to all, with many theories being developed about their establishment however, most historians believe they originated in Germany. It wasn't until the 14th century that breeders began to develop 'toy' versions of the breed.
Gypsies and travelling performers used this breed as they were able to learn a large variety of skills. They also began to fashion them in costumes and sculpted their coats into decorative shapes. Wealthy patrons saw what the gypsies were doing and started to style their own poodles accordingly! It wasn't until after WW2 that these pooches became popular, but by the 50s, they were the most common breed in the country. It was around this time that Miniature Poodles were developed as the costs surrounding a full-sized Poodle were too expensive for some people. They too became very popular across much of the world.
In 1874 and 1888, the Kennel Club of England and the American Kennel Club registered their first Poodle. The Poodle Club of America was founded in 1896 but was then disbanded and recreated in 1931.
