It's important to remember that with any new cross-breed, temperament can be affected by a lot of different factors, including their environment and the temperaments of the parents! Generally speaking, Lhasapoos are highly intelligent and can also show signs of stubbornness and independence. However, these traits can be toned down with plenty of training and socialization from a young age. Additionally, they also make good watchdogs due to their parent, the Lhasa Apso, who has a wariness of strangers and is both alert and devoted to their family. It may be found in some dogs, where Poodle genes are more dominant, that they are extremely playful and affectionate.

A relatively new designer cross breed, the Lhasapoo is thought to have been developed over the last ten or twenty years. They were created as a response to humans wanting a dog that was more unique than other breeds, possessing distinctive physical characteristics. The Lhasapoo is a cross between a Lhasa Apso and a Poodle or Miniature Poodle and it's also claimed, although not proved, that cross breeds are hypo-allergenic and prone to fewer health issues. As a new breed, pups will vary from litter to litter with very different physical and mental traits. For example, some may look more Lhasa Apso like in physical appearance, whereas others maybe more alert, in likeness to their parent, the Poodle.
