The Golden Shepherd is a mixed breed pooch. Their parents are the athletic Golden Retriever and the stately German Shepherd. They will generally have a long rough coat like the German Shepherd or it can be smooth and soft like the Golden Retriever. They will need a good deal of maintenance depending upon the coat type. This pooch is not much of a barker but they do not like being left alone for long periods of time. They are excellent watch dogs and a loving family pet. They are not prone to wander and can live in an apartment if they are given appropriate amounts of exercise.

The German Shepherd parent has a reputation for aggression; much of this is undeserved. When combined with the docile Golden Retriever the personality of the hybrid can be toned down. Still, he is highly alert and may be reserved around strangers, so he makes for a great watchdog.
It may take a while for him to make friends but once he does he is immensely loyal. He is eager to please, extremely clever and is easily trainable. However, he does not do well being alone for long periods of time. He needs companionship from his family and may bark excessively or chew if he is bored. Early socialization is also recommended for the Golden Shepherd in order to allow him to feel comfortable in all situations.
The Golden Shepherd is a mixed breed also known as a hybrid. They are the result of a breeding between the Golden Retriever and the German shepherd. This hybrid dog is very popular nowadays and is in very high demand from people that love both the German shepherd and the Golden Retriever.
In 1825, Lord Tweed mouth mated his “Yellow” sporting dog to a Tweed spaniel, one of the ensuing off spring was mated to a different Tweed spaniel and the offspring of that was then mated back once more. It’s reported that a sleuth-hound was another breed used, alongside a sheep dog from an organization of acting Russian circus dogs, with that his Lordship became smitten and today’s retriever evolved. The hope with a Golden Shepherd is to create a puppy with the alertness, courage and quickness of the German shepherd while getting the retrieving ability and gentle nature of a Golden Retriever.
