These dogs are known for their high intelligence and their ability to quickly pick up new skills and tricks! The breed are also extremely agile and athletic and love having a job to do.. not exactly a couch potato dog! They form very, very strong bonds with their 'hoomans', regardless of if they are a working dog or family pet. They are extremely devoted and get on extremely well with other children, being people-orientated by nature. However, they normally form the strongest bond with the person that spends the most time with them (or feeds them!). Because these guys are used to the outdoors, they would do best in a home where they have plenty of access to large and open spaces to stretch their little legs in! Additionally, they need a family who already lead an active lifestyle, that they can easily slot into. But for the right owners, they make fantastic pets, with the potential to provide you with years of joy and love.

The Entlebucher Mountain Dog's are the smallest of all the Swiss Mountain Dog breeds and are also thought to be one of the oldest as well! It's though that they are descendants of the Molussus dogs, who were around when the Romans took them with them onto the Alps, during their march across Europe, thought to have taken place over 2000 years! These dogs were originally bred to herd cattle and to bring dairy herds back down the mountain. They were developed in a region of Switzerland, called Berne and Lucerne, which is the origin of the breeds names but were officially named Entlebucherhund in 1889. They became increasingly popular in Switzerland but were unfortunately crossed with German Shepherds, which saw a huge drop in the number of pure breeds. There were just about saved from extinction by a man named Professor Heim, although they are still a very rare dog and even today you will be put on a waiting list if wanting to share your life with one of these pups.
