Chorkie Breed Summary

Sweet, Loving, Affectionate and Loyal

These little dogs are a cross between a Chihuahua and a Yorkshire Terrier, some are very, very small in size, whereas others are a little larger. They first appeared in the 90s and have quickly become hugely popular across the globe.

Their lovely personalities and smaller size also mean that they are very adaptable and are just as happy living in an apartment as they would be in a mansion! Just make sure that they get lots of exercise and playtime so that they can remain happy and healthy dogs.

Fun Fact: These dogs are low shedding which means they make great pets for 'hoomans' with allergies!

Like their parents, Chorkies have excellent temperaments and absolutely adore being around their 'hoomans'. They also love the finer things in life; a little bit of pampering here and a tummy rub there! Unfortunately, their human-loving natures mean that they are prone to separation anxiety if left alone that can result in some un-wanted behaviors, such as barking and even being destructive. We therefore recommend these guys go to a home where a 'hooman' is around for most of the day to give them all the attention and love that they need. For this reason, they also make excellent pets for the elderly and even make good therapy dogs!

These cute little pups first came about during the 90s and have since been an instant success! Chorkies are a cross between the Chihuahua and the Yorkshire Terrier and are considered to be a 'designer dog'. They are extremely small and fluffy dogs, so would definitely suit apartment living! They are not yet considered a pedigree breed by the Kennel Club but it's hoped after time that they may be able to achieve this status! Because they are such a new breed, puppies will vary from litter to litter and do have the potential to inherit health issues, so make sure you are able to view both the parents as this will help to avoid any nasty surprises further down the line!
